About the work-in-progress “Ouroboros”

Before the beginning of everything, there is an empty nothingness. In world history, as in mathematics, music, and circus, everything exists in a specific context and space, with definitions, melodies, and relationships changing through mutual interaction. A cyclical, endless movement. Everything that begins leads to an end, so it can start anew. Then we return to the beginning. Like a snake biting its tail.
“OUROBOROS” is a contemporary circus performance addressed to teenagers, which combines circus and music to tell about mathematical figures in connection with the development of world history. The show was created to bring mathematics, famous for its dry complexity, to life with the help of circus and music. In the emptiness, a point appears, translated into circus language as a contact juggling ball, further developing into a sinusoid and eventually returning to the point. Thus, the name of the show “OUROBOROS” was born. In Greek, “ouroboros” translates to “tail-eater,” symbolizing a snake (sometimes a dragon) coiling in a circle and biting its own tail, continuously destroying itself to be reborn anew.

The performance was created with the support of the State Cultural Capital Foundation as part of the “Latvian School Bag” program.
