RE RĪGA!: SIXTH “TAKE MY PICTURE”
What happens to the body when it wants to be funny, unusual or completely different – the kind of pose that makes you say: “That deserves a picture!”?
In the contemporary dance performance for the whole family Take My Picture, two dancers play with familiar poses, gestures and movements from those moments when we all try to “look special”.
Hands, legs and glances intertwine into a moving collage, transforming an everyday pose into a cartoon-like absurdity, an optical illusion or an acrobatic surprise. Through humour, contact dance and theatrical sketches, the performance invites young audiences to discover that imagination lives in the body and comes most vividly to life when we move together.
SIXTH is a collective of artists brought together by a shared artistic vision that emerged while studying contemporary dance at the Latvian Academy of Culture and has continued beyond graduation.
This generation of choreographers strives to create authentic and inclusive dance works where personal experience, a contemporary perspective and a desire to engage with society come together. Through their artistic practice, SIXTH explores issues relevant to today’s world and creates space for stories that have personally inspired and affected the artists.
At the heart of the collective’s work is the human body and its movement – a living, multilayered means of expression capable of communicating without words, evoking empathy and offering a broader perspective on human experience and existence in the contemporary world.
