RE RĪGA!: PAČAMAMO. CLOWN CRONOPIO
Carrying tricks, music and a whole world of useful and wonderfully useless things in his suitcase, the clown Cronopio arrives in a new, or perhaps strangely familiar, place. He is a traveller with good intentions and not always obedient hands, speaking through humour and tiny clumsy disasters about things children and adults know well. In South American Inca mythology, “Pachamama” means Mother Earth or Mother World. But what is our relationship with her today? As we travel and briefly land elsewhere, do we learn to listen differently? A warm, comic performance about the world we carry with us, and the world that carries us.
Before and after the performance, young audiences can discover circus disciplines and try engaging activities as part of the Children’s Morning programme.

About the artist
Mariano Gedvijo (Mariano Gedwillo), better known by his stage name Cronopio, is a clown, director, tightrope walker, and juggler from Argentina. He began his artistic career in 1997, performing in Argentina and other South American countries before touring across Europe. Driven by the desire to bring clowning not only to major cities but also to small towns and villages, Mariano founded the clown theatre company Compañía de Trabajadores Kallejeros in 2002.
His search for a genuine and authentic Clown character is rooted in everyday life, which is why he is interested in engaging with a wide variety of audiences—rich and poor, young and old, serious and playful, curious and sceptical. “I believe in the transformative power of art and in the fact that each of us has the ability to learn the language of art in order to share our unique vision of the world,” says the artist.
Since 2023, Mariano has been living and working in the land of his ancestors, Latvia, where he works both as a performing artist and as a juggling and clowning teacher at the Riga Circus School.
