Circus Living room open till early September in the Riga Circus

A circus inventory and design shop “Circus living room” is open at the Riga Circus. The entrance to the Living room-information centre is from the side of Merkela Street. The shop will run until September 30.

The “Circus living room” offers not only to try and buy different circus tools, but also invites to free tours around the Riga circus. At the moment, just before the reconstruction of the circus building, it is one of the last possibilities to explore the historic premises.

In the “Circus living room”, information is available on the activities of the Riga Circus School and on how to apply for children’s and adult lessons. In the shop you can also purchase tickets for the last circus show in the arena before the planned reconstruction of the building – the show of the circus association Kaaos Kaamos (Sweden), “Babel, Glöm *”, which will feature on September 2, 3 and 4. Starting from August 20, conversations about circus will also take place in the living room, which can be followed in person or online (on Fridays only online, as speakers living in other countries have also been invited).

We have invited various people close to the Riga Circus: the circus company Fauna participating in the residency programme, Circus School teachers Maija Sukute, Dmitrijs Pudovs and Aleksejs Smolovs, circus archive organizer Elvīra Avota, Riga circus renovation authors – representatives of the NRJA bureau of architects, Ingrīda Pičukāne, artist from the Riga Circus welfare residency programme, the creators of the Illusionist living room Gabriels Gots and Edgars Niklasons, and others. Please follow the news on the social networks of the Riga Circus for more detailed information about conversations on circus related topics.

The shop also offers a variety of design products created in Latvia – evolving games for children, natural cosmetics, interior design objects and design clothing of local brands. In the shop it is possible to buy healthy snacks and coffee, play a giant sized circus game in which the players themselves become game pieces, and explore various historical circus-related materials.

There’s a lot of fun going on in the circus right now – shows are just the tip of the iceberg. To show the rest, we decided to invite you for a visit. Not to a performance, but just to visit for a cup of coffee or a tour, for a visit to find out about the future plans of the circus, talk to circus artists and buy some juggling ball,” – says Māra Pāvula, head of the Riga Circus Strategic Development, who believes that these three weeks could be called open door days in the Riga Circus.

The “Circus living room” will run from August 14 to September 30. In August it will be open from 12 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Tuesday to Friday, while the opening hours on Saturdays are from 10AM to 6PM.

Working hours in September:

Wed-Fri: 2PM–6PM

Sat: 10AM–2PM

Subject to booking in advance, small tours will be organised around the backstage of the circus, together with employees of the Riga circus.

On Saturdays – August 22, August 29 and on September 5, if you book in advance, you can visit family mornings (11.00 – 12.30), where you can learn object manipulation, make your own juggling equipment, play the circus game and experience a variety of miracles.

Tours and family mornings can be booked on the spot in the Circus living room or on Facebook under the Circus living room event.
