LOS GALINDOS IN THE RĪGAS CIRKS RESIDENCY PROGRAM
17.02.2025.
From February 17 to March 5, 2025, the Catalan collective Los Galindos will be part of the Riga Circus residency program, developing a new performance. This residency will serve as a platform for artists to explore pressing social themes such as inequality, identity, and environmental issues. Their focus will be on questions such as: Where does the essence of conflict lie? In inequality? In the political inability to resolve disputes? In emotional or economic debt…? In growth? Climate change? In the continuation of the same modus operandi, even when the main actors change? In exploitation and abuse? Selfishness? Identity? Gender? Belonging?
In their new performance, Los Galindos will strive to break free from reality and transcend rationality with their characteristic wit and playfulness.
Founded in 1991, Los Galindos emerged from a search for a synergistic and energetic approach to collective creation. The group draws inspiration from poetry and the world of imagination, resulting in a distinctive artistic signature.
Well known in the world of contemporary circus and clowning, Los Galindos has received numerous prestigious awards, both internationally and in France.
The core members of the collective are artists Bet Garrell, Marcel Escolano, and producer Caterina Fiol. For their upcoming performance, they continue working with the same team that collaborated on MDR (Death from Laughter), which was featured in the RE RIGA! festival at Rīgas cirks in 2023 – artists Anicet Leone and Gabriel Agosti.
As part of the residency, on February 26 and 27, Los Galindos will hold an open rehearsal–workshop, inviting performing arts professionals, students, and amateurs to participate.
