Dance House at Riga Circus
In 2026, Rīgas Cirks, in collaboration with Dejas māja (Dance House), launches the pilot programme of a contemporary dance initiative Dejas māja at Rīgas Cirks. The development of Dejas māja as a contemporary dance brand of national significance in the contemporary art space Kurtuve in Valmiera was initiated by the Latvian Dance Information Centre in 2025 and continues in 2026.

Performance “#piecērt8000” by Olga Žitluhina
A pioneer of contemporary dance in Latvia, Olga Žitluhina, together with like-minded collaborators Juris Kaukulis, Kaspars Tobi, Oskars Pauliņš, Šeila, and dancer-choreographers, has created the contemporary dance performance “#piecērt8000”. The title of the performance is an allegorical reference to the history of Latvian dance and today’s reality. The performance features legendary Latvian contemporary dance artists Elīna Gaitjukeviča, Ramona Galkina, Santa Grīnfelde, Ilze Zīriņa, Olga Žitluhina, Dmitrijs Gaitjukevičs, Aldis Liepiņš, and Valērijs Oļehno.

A physically intense and structured performance about the body as an individual and collective experience, encouraging reflection on coexistence and empathy.
Within the programme Dejas māja at Rīgas Cirks, artists have been selected through an open call and will have the opportunity to develop their works during a residency at the premises of the Rīgas Cirks School at Zeļļu iela 25. In total, contemporary dance residencies will take place for 8 weeks this year. The contemporary dance residents in the programme this year are:
