As the RE RIGA! festival approaches, a special event is expected at Riga Circus on August 3rd – the solo show “Only Bones v1.0” by Thom Monckton, a multiple award-winning artist from New Zealand. The show is a brilliant example of virtuoso, humorous, and personal clowning that showcases the magic of physical theatre and contemporary circus.

ABOUT THE SHOW “Only Bones v1.0”
“Only Bones v1.0” is a solo show by Thom Monckton. In a small stage area, under the light of a single bulb, the artist reveals his creative imagination without words. The show won the Best Physical Theatre Show award at the New Zealand Fringe Festival in 2015. At the same festival, Thom Monckton was also nominated for the Stand Out Performer award. In 2016, the show was nominated for the Total Theatre Award for Physical Theatre at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. It was with this show that Riga Circus opened its 2017/2018 season.
ABOUT THE ARTIST TOM MONKTON
Thom Monckton, a circus and physical theatre artist, was born in New Zealand. Initially, he studied circus at New Zealand’s only circus school, CircoArts, and at the age of 17, he went to Paris to study physical theatre with actor and mime Jacques Lecoq – it was here that Monckton began collaborating with European artists. Monckton’s debut show, Moving Stationery (about an enthusiastic office worker attacked by all the office equipment, including his lunch), won six awards at the New Zealand Fringe Festival in 2012, and the artist received New Zealand’s professional theatre award “Actor of the Year” for it. Monckton has performed at numerous festivals around the world, including the London Mime Festival, the Mimos Festival (Perigueux), and the Montreal Contemporary Circus Festival Complètement Cirque, where he presented his second solo show, “The Pianist,” in collaboration with the Finnish contemporary circus company Circo Aereo.
At the RE RIGA! festival, Thom Monckton will present his latest show “Endling.”
