Rīgas Cirks Residency Programme for Baltic Artists: Eduards Haļass

01.10.2025.

From 29 September to 16 October, 2025, Eduards Haļass is the artist-in-residence at the Rīgas Cirks Residency Programme for Baltic Artists, working on his upcoming show.

The artist envisions the performance as a reflection on what it means to age in art and in life, as well as on the limits imposed by the body, society, and one’s own mind. Combining a philosophical perspective with subtle humour and comical situations, Eduard will remind us that circus is not only a physical discipline but also a space where one can laugh at oneself, experiment, and keep trying again and again.

Acrobats Roberts Aubēns and Rūdolfs Stumburs, together with director Andris Zeļonka, are joining Eduards Haļass in the residency.

Eduard Halias is a sports acrobat and circus artist with a brilliant career that was interrupted by injury. For several years, he has been seeking his way back onto the stage. This journey has not been simple: obstacles include the lingering effects of injury, the awareness of ageing, the long hiatus from active performance, and a new environment where his former discipline (the Russian bar) is no longer practised. Yet, through repeated attempts, mistakes, and new discoveries, he is gradually shaping his story of return.

The residency at Rīgas cirks marks the first stage of this creative journey. It will provide a space for the artist to explore the thematic lines and narrative structure of the show, while also refining various acrobatic techniques (mini-trampoline, airtrack, partner acrobatics, teeterboard, handstands). This process will be akin to a search for a path – how to return, how to keep trying, and how to learn to see oneself in a new light.
