“Epicirq” workshops and pitches 7-10 October, 2023, Tallinn, Estonia

12.10.2023.

This year Epicirq activities were divided in two parts:
Workshop 1st part October 7, 2023 – Pitch presentation session & Grassroot members meeting;

Workshop 2nd part October 9-10, 2023 – “Mutilated body” led by  Breno Caetano
Travel bursaries provided by “Grassroot – Baltic circus artists’ network” supported by the Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Culture

Pitches of new creative ideas and shows took place during Epicirq schedule, but the workshop was arranged after all performances.  It was a way to confront other bodies, letting artists be contaminated by others’ experiences, to elaborate and share reflections, supporting the principles of rituals, trance, struggles, fears, and pains.

One of the precious points in this workshop was the time needed to take artists to discover things. Often in dance courses they are asked or demanded to quickly produce answers and results. What if space is leaft for questioning, for generation of unstable moments, from there artists’ could give space to listen to what to do instead of saying what to do, taking a first step out of comfort zones and habits.

The mentor – Breno Caetano  received his training as a dancer and circus artist at the Curso técnico em Dança (CTD) of the Faculty of Dance in Brazil and at the Centre National of Cirque (CNAC) in France. Breno has collaborated with various artists, including Yann Marussich, Ohad Naharin, Philippe Decouflé, Marine Mane, Yann Lheureux, Fabrice Melquiot and Melissa Von Vépy.  Brenodo is the director of the master’s program in dance at the university Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, and artistic member and programmer of the Circus Dance Festival in Germany.

The workshop was a physical exploration using artists’ equipment/dicipline.
