Baltic circus on the road 2024–2025
23.08.2024.
The project “Baltic Circus on the Road 2024-2025” (BCR) aims to support professional circus artists active in all three Baltic countries to produce tourable performances and show their work to international audiences. They will develop their network and join the touring circuit of contemporary circus in Europe.
Selection and Touring: A short-list of ten artists will be selected by the jury of project partners via an open call for work-in-progress creations and ready performances adaptable for indoor and outdoor presentation. Each partner then will be able to select performances or work-in-progresses from the short list that will be programmed and represented in the largest local circus festivals such as “Re Riga!” Latvia, “Helium” and “Cirkuliacija” Lithuania, and in three important contemporary circus events abroad: Festival “Spoffin” (Amersfoort, The Netherlands), Festival “Carnaval Sztukmistrzów” (Lublin, Poland), Berlin Circus Festival (Berlin, Germany).
Residencies: In order to develop their performances up to three of the selected artists will receive residency for their work-in-progress development.
Circus professionals (programmers) will be invited to partner events in collaboration with the Baltic Nordic Circus Network to get acquainted with the Baltic circus field and available performances from the region.
Promotion: In order to promote Baltic artists in the international professional scene, a catalogue
of available performances in the region will be made available for international programmers, distributed in the partner events, and in flagship industry events across Europe as (but not exclusively) in festival “Circa” in Auch, leading contemporary circus festival in France, and in the key industry event Circus Expo 2025 during festival “CircusMania” in Stockholm, Sweden.
Organisers: BCR is a collaboration between the coordinator – Rigas cirks (Latvia), partners in the Baltic states: Estonian Contemporary circus development centre (Estonia), Arts Printing house (Lithuania), Teatronas (Lithuania)
and receiving partners outside Baltic countries: Festival “Spoffin” (Amersfoort, The Netherlands), Festival “Carnaval Sztukmistrzów” (Lublin, Poland), The Berlin Circus Festival (Germany) and an associate partner Baltic Nordic Circus Network (BNCN).
