Acrobatics is undoubtedly one of the most breathtaking disciplines in both the traditional and contemporary circus. The acrobat needs to be in excellent physical shape, have enormous concentration and work hard to turn the performance into a true work of art.
The acrobat Aivars Meistars performed at the Riga Circus in the late 1950s as a substitute guest artist. He indulged in acrobatics while studying at the Physical Education Department of the Pedagogical Institute. When Aivars was in his final year, he was asked to replace an acrobat-jumper who had fallen ill. Having witnessed the golden age of the Soviet circus, Aivars has also seen the performances of the biggest stars of the Soviet circus and now he is happy to share his impressions with us.
