In psychology it is used to understand personality and self-disclosure. It suggests that a person’s self-revelation progresses in stages, moving from superficial layers to more intimate ones.

Personality is formed and influenced by many factors: age, gender, name, language, roots, beliefs, goals, fears, fantasies… There’s a long list. During a lifetime we unconsciously learn who and how to be. But do we really know what is under all those layers? The artist aims to reach the real skin, without knowing if it will be pleasant or rather uncomfortable.

The Onion Technique is an invitation to open ourselves up to vulnerability and to discover strength within it.
