IF CIRCUS \u201cMELIC\u00a0\u2013 WEAVING MEMORIES\u201d
\nSpain \/ Netherlands<\/h3>\n

Artists Mar Oliv\u00e9 and Shalom Gramiccioli have been collaborating as\u00a0If Circus\u00a0since 2023. Their work is inspired by the ancient art of knitting and the act of reclaiming their ancestors\u2019 knowledge. The show\u00a0\u201cMelic \u2013 Weaving Memories\u201d\u00a0is a poetic exploration where hand-knitted ropes take center stage \u2013 transforming, tightening and loosening, knitting and unknitting \u2013 symbolizing the threads that connect, support, and cradle us.<\/p>\n

As part of the performance,\u00a0If Circus\u00a0offers the\u00a0Knitting Memories workshop, held the day before the show. This intergenerational experience is designed for women aged 60 and above, inviting them to knit together the rope that will be used on stage. In addition, participants will share their stories through recorded interviews, which will later be played during the performance, intertwining their voices and memories into the fabric of the show.<\/p>\n

Mar Oliv\u00e9\u00a0trained at the 9 Barris Youth Circus School before specializing in aerial rope at the Academy for Circus and Performance Arts (ACaPA) in Tilburg, Netherlands. She explores innovative aerial structures, weaving together ropes and textured papers, and integrates capillary suspension into her artistic practice.<\/p>\n

Shalom Gramiccioli\u00a0studied circus arts at ACaPA in the Netherlands. She has collaborated with Julian Vogel on \u201cChina Series #4\u201d and co-created \u201c13 Harbinger Road\u201d, a production with Hendrik van Maele and Maria Madeira, currently touring in Belgium and Portugal. She is also a co-founder of\u00a0Framing Effekt, a collective working on the \u201cSystema\u201d project, alongside Marius Caven, Julie Micheneau, and Lara Schoental<\/p>\n
