MAIJA SUKUTE \u201cHURT\u201d

HURT\u00a0is a fusion of dance and aerial acrobatics that explores the body and mind\u2019s ability to adapt in the face of difficulty and pain. Pain\u2014both physical and emotional\u2014has become a new kind of normal. We rarely notice the slow shift from\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m fine\u201d\u00a0to\u00a0\u201cit is what it is,\u201d\u00a0and many take pride in pushing beyond their limits. The world demands a lot from us, but we often demand even more from ourselves.<\/p>\n

At the heart of\u00a0HURT\u00a0is a being from another world, suddenly thrust into a human body\u2014experiencing, all at once, the shock of physical and emotional fracture. One question remains: is it possible to break free, or must we learn to live with it, as humans do?<\/p>\n

Maija Sukute\u00a0is a dancer, choreographer, and aerial acrobat. Since 2019, she has been part of the Riga Circus and the Riga Circus School\u2019s coaching team, while completing her degree in choreography and dance pedagogy at the Latvian Academy of Music. At the same time, she taught herself aerial acrobatics and has since refined her skills in professional training programs in London and Sicily. Since 2022, Maija has worked as a choreographer for the Riga Circus School\u2019s productions.<\/p>\n

HURT\u00a0is Maija Sukute\u2019s debut solo performance. In it, she explores the intersection of contemporary dance and aerial acrobatics\u2014challenging the expectation that aerial disciplines must rely solely on spectacle, rehearsed drops, or visually pleasing poses.<\/p>\n

For her, an artist is only truly alive when they are authentic.<\/p>\n
