The first stage of the R\u012bgas cirks reconstruction is done! The 134 years old building is open for contemporary circus shows, art residencies and other events. We welcome you to the renewed arena of Rigas cirks!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

During the renovation process, the walls and the fundamental of the historical circus building have been strengthened, the dome and the arena itself is now renewed so that it supports the contemporary circus needs regarding the safety aspects as well as the artistic needs. The cultural layers of the building have been saved and exposed. In the future, there is more work to be done regarding the front of the circus building, a new space for the circus school and residences.<\/p>\n

The architecture office NRJA<\/strong> (No Rules Just Architecture) has completed the first stage of the R\u012bgas cirks<\/strong> reconstruction at the end of 2022. In architectural and design solutions, NRJA has followed the principle of \u00abadding by removing\u00bb \u2014 by revealing hidden historical layers, a sense of newness is created, while simultaneously embodying the 135 years of existence of the Riga circus building.<\/p>\n

The R\u012bgas cirks building, which was designed in 1888 after the project of architect Johans Fridrihs Baumanis, is one of the oldest in Europe, the only permanent circus building in the Baltic states, as well as an architectural monument of national significance. It is built as a brick building with an arena, especially suited to circus numbers with horses, covered by an unheated dome 24 metres in diameter. The historic dome structure consists of sixteen columns constructed from railway tracks.<\/p>\n
